The Art of Sushi

Sushi is much more than just a dish – it is an expression of Japanese culture and craftsmanship that has been perfected over centuries. Sushi originally comes from Japan and developed in the 8th century from a method of preserving fish. Over the years, this technique has been refined, and modern sushi, as we know it today, originated in Edo (present-day Tokyo) in the 19th century.

Sushi mainly consists of two basic elements: fresh fish and seasoned rice. But the preparation requires far more than just the right ingredients. Sushi chefs undergo years of training to achieve the perfect balance of taste, texture and aesthetics. The fish is carefully selected and processed in precise cuts, while the sushi rice is seasoned with a special mixture of rice vinegar, salt and sugar.

There are different types of sushi, including nigiri, where a small amount of rice is topped with a piece of fish or seafood, as well as maki, sushi rolls that are wrapped and filled with seaweed. Each variant has its own character, but all share the focus on freshness, quality and craftsmanship.
